MANNIX Flynn has blasted Rex Ryan for staging his play about The Monk, branding it “grotesque”.
And the furious Dublin city councillor says gangster Gerry Hutch looks like a clueless contestant on TV’s Celebrity Mastermind, sitting in a chair at the start of the show but not answering any questions.

Mannix, 68, told The Irish Sun: “This is a commercial venture with one individual playwright on the pig’s back with it.”
He claimed: “This is not a drama. It will add nothing to the canon of literature or theatre.
“What we are talking about here is a spectacle. That’s what people are turning up to see. A spectacle!”
Acclaimed actor and playwright Flynn plans on standing against Hutch in the forthcoming by-election in Dublin Central.

He said the controversial production, which features an onstage appearance by The Monk promoting his political ambitions, is set in the backdrop of major social problems that have beset inner-city Dublin for decades.
Mannix also asked: “Is Mr Hutch exploiting Rex Ryan or is Rex Ryan exploiting Mr Hutch?
“What we are looking at here is a drug issue, a poverty issue and the deaths of many individuals and traumatisation of many communities. Mr Hutch is a product of all of that.”
