Gardaí have identified a man who was seriously assaulted in Temple Bar in Dublin in the early hours of Wednesday morning following a public appeal.

Two men, who are aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested last night and are being questioned at separate garda stations in Dublin.

Gardaí had released an image of a tattoo he has on his right forearm as part of their appeal to identify the victim.

They said in an update this afternoon that he had now been identified.

The man remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.

He was attacked by two men on Cope Street shortly after arriving there on an e-scooter at around 12.30am on Wednesday.

He was punched, kicked and hit a number of times with the e-scooter after it was taken from him.

His assailants left him unconscious on the ground, but then returned a short time later and attacked him again, breaking his arm.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal to anyone who was in the Cope Street area between midnight and 1am last Wednesday morning who may have information, mobile or dash-cam footage to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
