Man, 50s, dies in custody at Garda station after being found unresponsive in cell as Fiosru launch probe.

A MAN, aged in his 50s, has died in Garda custody and the matter has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman.

The man, who was in a cell, was found unresponsive in the early hours of Saturday morning and emergency services were immediately called.

It understood the man was in custody at a Garda Station in Co Waterford, which according to sources was in Dungarvan.

Gardai in the station commenced immediate resuscitative attempts but the man was pronounced dead shortly after first responders attended.

The local Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be carried out by a state pathologist.
