Ryan Scott, 28, from Blyth, was clocked at 112mph just five seconds before smashing into Claire Laybourne’s car while overtaking at nearly 90mph on the dark, rainy A19 in North Tyneside last December.
The 39-year-old beautiful and kind mother-of-two was carefully driving around a broken-down vehicle when the collision happened. She died the next day; her mother, who was a passenger, suffered broken ribs, brain bleed and whiplash. Scott fled the scene on foot.
He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for 10 years at Newcastle Crown Court today, plus a 13-year-8-month driving ban.
He will be out in half the time he should have got LIFE for taking a life
