Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man in connection with the alleged assault of a child and suspicious approaches to children in north Dublin last month.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place on the afternoon of Sunday 15 February, and are said to involve three children.

An eight-year-old child is alleged to have been assaulted.

Gardaí commenced a criminal investigation which involved members of the Divisional Protective Services Unit and detectives from Clontarf and Santry.

A number of children were interviewed to establish all of the circumstances in relation to these alleged approaches.

A local school said it was liaising with the gardaí, a dance club warned its members to be careful, and concerns were also expressed on social media.

Today, gardaí said they searched a property in Santry and arrested a man in his 20s.

He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
