JD Vance, the US vice president, has warned that the loss of British values poses a greater threat than Russia in his landmark address to the Munich Security Conference. European leaders had descended on the German city with the intention of discussing an end to the war in Ukraine, but Mr Vance told allies that the main threat to European security came not from Russia but from within. He criticised Europe over mass migration and a lack of defence spending, condemning the UK for betraying Brexit voters by opening “the floodgates to millions of unvetted immigrants”.
