Gardai seize his and hers Rolex watches, diamond ring and car in Limerick
17/06/2021
Gardai have seized two Rolex watches, a diamond ring and a car in a Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) investigation.
The CAB investigation took place in Limerick and the assets are believed to be belonging to drug dealers
Fred is bemused! Designer watches, fancy new cars. Who are the sellers? Surely they know they are money launderers if they accept cash and fail to declare it to Revenue. Maybe I am just being naive but there has to be some logic to who takes responsibility for the chain of transaction. We know that Dubai links to all countries and it has many Irish people visit so we can then assume the jewellery may be bought there and smuggled into Ireland. Otherwise if bought in Ireland, the sellers must know what the racket is? The Receiver of stolen goods was often given a harsher sentence in the old days. But what about the person who sells to Gangland? It is just too easy to say they don’t know that the cash is from the hideous, most destructive crimes of all, illegal drugs and all that ties into same. We all know the cars they choose to drive and we also know the dealerships. They must take account and be held accountable too.
The investigation is understood to be related to the seizure of a Mercedes Benz A180 AMG in the Limerick area.

A Garda spokesperson said: ‘The Criminal Assets Bureau carried out a search operation in Limerick this morning, Thursday 17th June 2021.
‘During the course of the search the following items were seized: Two Rolex Watches (Ladies & Gents), Diamond Ring, €1,100 cash, 161 VW Polo and Financial Documentation.
‘In addition to the above, a 192 Mercedes Benz A180 AMG and €14,425 cash which was previously seized by local Gardaí in Limerick and will now form part of the Criminal Assets Bureau proceedings.
‘The Criminal Assets Bureau investigation is focussed on the assets of persons suspected to be involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Limerick area,’ the spokesperson added.
