The Kinahan organised crime group (KOCG) is struggling to pay off prisoners on its payroll as a result of US sanctions bearing down on the gang and an assets seizure in its Gulf bolthole in Dubai.

Seventy-nine associates of the cartel have been imprisoned as a result of a series of garda strikes in recent years.
