James Fisher, Peter Cassidy, Richard Twohig, John Gaffney, and Joseph Spooner were executed in Kilmainham Jail in November, 1922, the first executions carried out under the Free State Government. These Volunteers were captured with arms. Ireland fought for freedom from 700+ years occupation by the British Empire; 100 years, there are no executions and there is a democracy alongside membership of equality in the EU
