This isn’t a mystery. Right from the first time Aontu ran for election Peadar’s sister was Mairead Toibin (my local candidate) was defending immigration on the grounds that “Ireland needs young families”. They’re natalists, with the kind of tunnel vision that zealots always have. They like to shame childless women. A natalist told me I was selfish for not having kids because I would be expecting her kids to look after me in old age; when I asked her if she was actually planning to her children’s lives, telling them they had to work as carers, she didn’t have an answer. They don’t like AI because it will make old and disabled people independent, free of the need to employ human carers.
